I'm a Wedding Planner, Not a B*tch

To Whom It May Concern,

Nora and I often get the compliment "you guys were seriously so easy to work with"! I'm not saying that to toot our own horn (and don't get me wrong, we love hearing that), but it made us start to wonder... have THAT many vendors really had so many bad experiences with planners that they automatically think it's not going to be easy to get along with the next one?

Let's get real for a minute. In the wedding industry, wedding planners have a tendency to be labeled as b*tches. There. I said it. Some venues and other vendors roll their eyes at the idea of the bride having a planner because we are "bossy, stuck-up and demanding". Here's the thing-- We're not. At least Nora and I, and plenty of other wedding planners out there, are not.

I'm not going to tell you that those planners don't exist, because I'm sure they do. But there certainly aren't enough of them to cause all of us to have the same stigma. I know plenty of wedding planners that are absolute sweethearts.

Here's the deal. We're at the wedding to do the exact same thing that every other vendor is there to do. Our job. And along the way, we want to make sure the bride and groom are having the absolute best, stress-free day. So if we seem like we're being nit-picky, rest assured it's not because we're trying to be bossy or demanding, it's because we know what little details are important to the couple and we're trying to make sure they happen. Quite frankly, we're trying to make sure everyone looks good. We also want to make sure that all of the vendors, ourselves included, are having a great time. Why? Because the best wedding atmosphere is created when vendors are enjoying the wedding just as much as the guests are. There is a certain comrodary when everyone is on the same page, working towards the same goals, and actually enjoying working together.

So please, next time someone tells you that wedding planners are "hard to work with" or "not very friendly", know that they've had a bad experience, and we're just not all that way.
